Swing Help |
Description: |
Adding to the dynamic braking effort, the swing help on UP 6033 west winds downgrade at Thistle. The second car behind the help is a former D&RGW 4-bay hopper, for years an everyday sight on Solider Summit. |

A Worthy Dedication |
Description: |
UP 2423 carries a plaque dedicating the locomotive to Roger Buchanan. The dedication reads: "For his unwavering commitment to safety, this locomotive is dedicated in honor of Roger Buchanan, Work Equipment Mechanic, N. Little Rock, AR, J. C. Kenefick Safety Award winner, 1988. Nice tribute, but the unit could use some TLC. |

Sunburned & Happy |
Description: |
Me, on the left, and my father, at the Helper Depot. I've spent many hours here over the last 12 years; the Rio Grande was a special railroad to me and I did what I could to see the last of it before Union Pacific erased it. Those images, on film, will come as I can get them scanned. But, this was the first time I'd been here with my Dad, and it was time well spent. Both of us show the effects of skiing in Utah - sunburned, windburned faces, and big smiles! |

Swing Help Returning |
Description: |
After lunch at Grogg's in Price, UT (a nice, little local microbrewery and tavern), we turned back west towards Salt Lake. On the way, we caught the swing help from the CUSLX returning to the Utah Railway's yard at Martin, UT, as it passed through Castle Gate. |

Former Rio Grande Power on the Former Rio Grande |
Description: |
The Provo Turn idles at Sandy Yard, awaiting a crew to take it south for the evening's work. Nice to see a former D&RGW GP35 on the former D&RGW, even nicer that it is painted for Rio Grande's long-time parter. |
