A fading original photo of the 1907 Burnham, Wms & Co built ten wheeler. According to www.steamlocomotives.com, "Very#few engines were delivered with this particular combination of bore and stroke. Few Ten-wheelers had cylinders this big in any case, yet their 13" piston valves actuated by the still-rare Walschaert's gear seem well-sized to keep up with demand. Description: |
Like its sistere #1400 posted earlier, this loco was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works predecessor, Burnham, Williams & Co, in 1907. The loco had 69" drivers and an engine/tender length of 57.83'. In the 1920's, SLSF superheated this class and were kept active during WWII but were eventually "dismissed from service" between March, 1950-November, 1951. |
