Title:
BO 2-8-8-4 #661 - Baltimore & Ohio
Description:
Massive brute built by Baldwin in 1944 for the Baltimore & Ohio RR. According to www.steamlocomotive.com, "the EM-1's were the last articulated steam locomotives built for the B&O. Actually, the B&O did not want the EM-1's. Instead they wanted diesels. However, because of restrictions imposed by the War Production Board, the EM-1s were delivered from Baldwin in 1944 (7600 - 7619) and 1945 (7620 - 7629). For this wheel arrangement, they were relatively modest in size, but very successful. Specs - EM-1 class, nee-7611, 64" drivers, impressive 235 psi boiler pressure, 24x32" cylinders, engine weight of 628,700 lb, impressive traction effort of 115,056 lb. The last of this class was retired in 1960. R.D. Patton photo
