Of the 574 2-8-2 L1 class Mikados built for the Pennsy, only #520 survives today at the RR Museum of Pennsylvania. A majority of the L1's were built by the PRR's own Juniata Shops. PRR #1444 however was built by Baldwin in February of 1916. It served for nearly 40 years before being retired and sold for scrap in 1956. Specs - serial #42904, L1 class, 62" drivers, 205 spi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylindeers, engine weight of 320,700 lb and tractive effort of 61,465 lb. .R. Quinn photo |
