Description:
Once a hardworking member of the Illinois Central roster, IC 2-8-2 #1502 sits in the scrap line now at the Proviso, IL, yard. Built by Lima in October of 1923 as IC #1939 (serial #6531), it served for nearly 33 years before being sold for scrap in February of 1956. Inbetween, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered the loco in July of 1937 to IC #1417. It was renumbered again in January of 1951 to IC #1502. Rebuild specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500, tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.
