Title:
WPRX #1402
Description:
Built in 1926 by Pullman in Lot #4961 to Plan #3584A as 10S-2DR sleeper POINT RICHARDS, 1 of 20 such sleepers built in that Lot; cars were delivered between April and May 1926. The POINT RICHARDS was 1 of 6 cars from this Lot which were sold to SOU at the 12/31/1948 divestiture; of a total of 23 such sleepers acquired by SOU; the POINT RICHARDS as SOU #2433. Of the 6 cars from this Lot acquired by SOU, 4 survive: POINT ALLERTON (CNO&TP #3507) was rebuilt in 1954 to coach #1035, later to open air coach #1070, which is now owned by the Virginia Museum of Transportation; POINT NOIRE (GS&F #6204) was rebuilt in 1952 to baggage-express #6457, which is now owned by the Southeastern RY Museum; POINT RICHMOND (CNO&TP #3509) was rebuilt in 1956 to business car #21, renumbered in 1970 to #6; renumbered in 1972 to #5, to NS #8, sold in 2000 to private ownership. The POINT RICHARDS was rebuilt in 1952 to steam generator (battery charger) #BC2, later renumbered to #960605, to NS #26 (1st), sold in 1990 to New Georgia RR as NGRX #1402, sold at the New Georgia auction in 1995 to Lou Steplock-Wyoming & Pacific as WPRX #1402. Steplock was one of the partners in the Montana Daylight operation before it was bought out by AOE and rebranded Montana Rockies Rail Tours. Since this photograph was taken, the #1402 has been repainted in a variation of the SP Black Widow scheme and placed back into service on Albany & Eastern RR excursions.
