Between Neenah and Oshkosh, a fast moving CN freight soars along the former Soo!Line / Wisconsin Central main at Wcnnebago. The C&NW right of way through the Fox Valley to Green Bay is about 50 feet to the right of the rails. The C&NW right of way no longer has rails or ties, it would make a great trail along an active rail line. Some time ago, there was a spur off the C&NW line here to the state hospital, known as Winnebago. This line has certainly changed over the last couple decades. Twenty years ago it was a busy line for the modern Wisconsin Central, with a fairly large number of local industries to serve. Now, though the number of local businesses has diminished, the main is busier than ever as part of a trans-con for the CN. |
