"Altoona At Night," Page 10, 1948
Here is page one of a four-page camera study by Al Rung entitled "Altoona At Night." It was published originally in the April 1948 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 10. Photo Caption: "The westbound 'Cincinnati Limited' pulls into Altoona at 11:07 p.m., and her giant T-1 locomotive is thoroughly checked by an inspector whose tour of the engine is shown by the path of his torch." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5532, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during April of 1946 and retired in December of 1953 after just seven years of revenue service.
