Horseshoe Curve-1948. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in the Summer of 1948. Shown here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" locomotive pulling the second section of the "Gotham Limited" around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to the Passenger Station in Altoona. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Pennsy Steam Locomotives" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (109-4). |
