Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took at the tunnels under Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2200, #2201, #2207, #7187, #7004, #2514, and #2248. #2200 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in February of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, they've surmounted the East Slope of the Allegheny Mountains and are about to enter one of the westbound tunnels with a 125-car merchandise freight train. Visible in the foreground is the New Portage Secondary Track leading to Hollidaysburg, just before it merges into the mainline. |
