Rye to Washington, #9 of 13, 1987
R2W. Here is the ninth of 13 original photos that I took while riding in an Amtrak passenger train from Rye, New York, to Washington, DC, on 26 July 1987. Shown here (R to F) are the skyline of downtown Manhattan, the northern abutment of the Whitestone Bridge, as well as the dog-leg entrance of the waters of Hell Gate. The ghostly forms of the two World Trade Center towers are discernable near the center. Photo taken while crossing the Hell Gate Bridge, which was opened on 28 March 1917.
