UP 4202
For the past week, the weather has been taking its tole on the railroads here in California, mainly in the Central Valley. Flooding caused a derailment on UPs Fresno Subdivision in Elk Grove and has also covered BNSFs Sacramento Subdivision in some areas, closing both lines for several days. while the BNSF has reopened, the derailment has yet to be cleared still and as a result, UP has been detouring trains via Altamont Pass, Oakland, and the Martinez Subdivision to get between Stockton and Roseville. This rerouting has made for some really rare sightings on the Oakland and Martinez Subdivisions, including the Brooklyn Z-trains (ZLCBR and ZBRLC, also known as the Brooklyn Trailers) and the manifests running between West Colton and Roseville. But the real surprise was the jointly-operated Canadian National grain train, which was spotted with a super rare set of power consisting of a C40-8M leader, SD70M-2, SD75I, and a C44-9W! Amtrak Phase III heritage P42DC No. 145 also made a welcome appearance on the Capitol Corridor.
