Bonhommie & Hattiesburg Southern SW1's 1 and 2, along with caboose 12, were parked at the railroad's freight house in Hattiesburg, waiting to depart on a mixed train from Beaumont, Mississippi. This was one of at least two such excursions operated for Chapters of the National Railway Historical Society in 1971-1972, before the little railroad disappeared into the Illinois Central Gulf. (Notice the people in the drop-end gondola on the other end of the caboose!) The two locomotives were originally Wabash 103 and 102, and had been purchased by the B&HS in October 1961 to replace the railroad's last two steam engines. (approximate day) |
