Built by Alco in May of 1947 as New Haven #0401, this unit bounced around several rr rosters before finally being purchased by the Railroad Museum of New England 0401 in December, 1985. She arrived on the property April 4, 1986 and her extensive restoration began in 1987. This photo was taken a year after restoration. Eventually, the unit was moved to safe storage on the Naugatuck Railroad in 2008. #0401 has the distinct title of being the first Alco cab-type diesel preserved in the United States.
