NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1953. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8506, #5857, and an E-7 Class "B" unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #8506 is an ES-15M built in August of 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #5857 is an EP-20 built in February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They have just passed under the 24th Street Bridge with a passenger train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Pittsburgh and points West. |
