PRR 1000, "Aerotrain," 1956
Aerotrain. Here is a photo that was taken from the 24th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 1956. Shown here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Aerotrain," built by General Motors during July of 1955. After changing both engine and train crews in Altoona, it's passing SLOPE Tower on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Johnstown as part of its daily sojourn from New York City to Pittsburgh and back. "Look Ma, NO helper!" The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded.
