iLocations. Here is the second of two photos that were taken by Mr. William H. Rau near South Fork, Pennsylvania, c. 1888. Shown here is the original Conemaugh Viaduct, with Mr. Rau's special train parked upon it. This single-arched, double-tracked Viaduct was built for and used by the Allegheny Portage Railroad from 1834 through 1854. It was then acquired and used by the Pennsylvania Railroad until it was washed-away during the neglect-based "Johnstown Flood" on 31 May 1889. |
