Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Roundhouse in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. At the left, cabin cars await their next assignments, In the center, steam locomotives are being serviced at the Ash Pit; the gantry crane is used to scoop the ashes out of the pits and dump them into waiting hopper cars. At the right, freshly-serviced engines await their next assignments on the Locomotive Ready Tracks.
