The Coast Line is Californias main rail artery between the San Francisco-Bay Area and Los Angeles. The line, which was originally owned by the Southern Pacific, is now owned by Union Pacific between San Jose and Moorpark, and by Metrolink from there to Los Angeles. From Salinas to San Luis Obispo, the line passes through some of the areas farmlands, particularly concentrated around Salinas, Soledad, and King City. From Salinas to Paso Robles, the line climbs 700 feet on an imperceptible 0.1% grade. From Paso Robles, the tracks continue to Atascadero, where the tracks leave the highway and decend Cuesta Grade into San Luis Obispo, where the subdivision ends.
