PRR Double Duty, 1949
NST. Here is an image of a photo by Tom Lyman that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in June of 1949. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives ~ a "Texas" and a "Decapod" ~ pushing a freight train past SLOPE Tower and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the pushers will be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona. Note that the 24th Street Turntable is still operable. Photo taken from the 24th Street Bridge. William E. Burket Collection.
