"World Famous Horseshoe Curve," Page 45, 1973         
Here is page 45 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Top-Right Photo, Partial Caption: "Here is the east end of the station platform. The locomotives, which appear to be Class E-3, are backing into the station to pick up trains which they will take to Harrisburg." Photo taken from the 12th Street Footbridge. The Altoona Passenger Station pictured here was constructed during 1887 and demolished on 19 November 1977; it served generations of travelers for 90 years! (To identify these buildings, refer to pages 37 and 38.)
