Union Pacific Railroad GP40 640 at Denver, Colorado on March 13, 1983, Kodachrome by Jim Altman, Chuck Zeiler collection. Although this locomotive left EMD's plant painted as Rock Island 4709, it was owned by the UP and leased to the Rock. When the Rock shut down on March 31, 1980, all but nine of the original 60 leased GP40's were returned to the UP.
