PRR 9539, EF-15A, 1954 |
Description: |
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on 3 September 1954. Photo Caption: "F3A-led [livestock] freight rolls by the local recycling center (used to be called 'dumps') on the west side of the Monongahela River. PRR Class EF45. This is the PRR Monongahela Division." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9539 and two more "EF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9539 was built in September of 1948 and retired in April of 1965 after just 17 years of revenue service. ("LouisFols"; #15 of 26) |

PRR 9565, EF-15, 1960 |
Description: |
4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during November of 1960. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #9539 and #9565. Both are EF-15's built by EMD in 1948 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. They have just passed under the 4th Street Bridge and are pulling a coal train into the Eastbound Receiving Yard. Visible on the right are the largely-unused livestock pens, right next to SOUTH Tower (not shown). ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.) |
