Title:
PRR 6416, J-1A, 1949
Description:
FM. Here is an image of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 October 1949. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6416, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during July of 1943 and retired in November of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling a freight train around the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. This image comes from a B&W slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa. William E. Burket Collection.
